Meeting of Employment Subgroup on Income Distribution and Inequalities in Buenos Aires
Priorities issues of the G20 agenda were discussed at the meeting that members of the Labour 20 team work attended
On 12 April, a meeting on income distribution and inequalities was held at the Centro Cultural Néstor Kirchner (CCK) in the City of Buenos Aires organized by the G20 Argentina team work 2018.
The event was divided into 4 thematic panels: (i) Inclusive Growth towards the reduction of inequality, (ii) Changes in the dynamics of skills and uneven demand, (iii) Quality of employment in the Future of Work: impacts in terms of inequalities and (iv) The Social protection role to fight against inequalities.
Each of the panels that addressed fundamental issues for the future of employment and the protection for workers, included the exposition and participation of members of the L20 team, the International Labour Organization (ILO), the World Bank, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, Agency of the United Nations ECLAC, the Andean Development Corporation- the Development Bank of Latin America.
During the meeting, a space for debate was created among the participating countries where the strong impact that the social protection and pensions have on poverty and inequality was highlighted and how that impact varies from counties to regions.
Also, there was discussion on the need for building a comprehensive social protection system which allows guaranteeing a universal basic income regardless of the type of employability.
Finally, it was emphasized that the increase of inequality is a problem which affects everybody particularly in Latin America.
